| The Container Line Services HELO 1 celebrate its first year of existence | ||
The Container Line Services »HELO1«, developed by the Austrian Helogistics
Holding, have been successful on the market as a transport product between the port of Constanta and
Budapest for one year now. On the 13th August 2010 the – in respect of both the price and the
operational level – attractive Container Line Services were started and with it more than 6,600 TEUs
(20 foot container equivalent unit) have been transported by inland waterway barge on the Danube.
»HELO1« has made a very good start and completed a successful first year. The product is accepted
well on the market and has developed much better than we expecte« sums up Herfried Leitner, CEO of
Helogistics Holding, which has its Head Office in Vienna.
The operation is particularly positive in Serbia. Here there is a very big acceptance by the shippers and a very good development. This is the case for the transport of both the empty and loaded containers. »We judge the markets in Serbia and Hungary to be particularly good and they are developing very quickly. Until the end of the year we want to reach complete utilization« anticipates Leitner. Innovative Product in the Inland Waterway Tranportation The »HELO1« Container Line Services offers an optimal possibility to transport containers from the Black sea port of Constanta to the European hinterland. The service has been offered since 2010 with the vessels of both of the shipping companies DDSG and MAHART and is based on an intelligent loop system concept with exact defined departure and arrival times. The service is offered once a week in both directions with a maximum capacity of 144 TEU (twenty foot containers). Both empty and fully loaded containers are accepted for transport. Technically speaking the barges, which are loaded with containers, re pushed by boats, which are transporting dry bulk products at the same time. The journey from the Romanian port of Constanta upstream to Budapest takes 11,5 days and the journey from Budapest to Constanta downstream takes eight days.The services are offered all year round and supported with a Track and Tracing System. HELO1 as an environmentally friendly transport medium complies with the EU funded »modal shift« guidelines in the framework of the Marco-Polo programme and has for this reason successfully applied for funding. The commitment of the funding body is distributed over 3 years – this is the maximum funding duration of the Marco-Polo programmes.
